4th Annual Employment and Technology Institute

“The Future Is Now: Invest in Yourself”

7-Day Conference: Thurs., Aug. 5 - Wed., Aug 11, 2010

Intensive Technology Weekend: Fri., Aug. 6 - Sun., Aug. 8, 2010 

Join us this year as we explore new ways to “Invest in Yourself.”  This extraordinary opportunity for adults (18+ years of age) who are blind or visually impaired, offers workshops and seminars by seasoned professionals, a Technology Expo with hands-on demos of the latest in assistive technology, and an opportunity to relax and reflect at VISIONS VCB. This 35 acre residential rehabilitation and training center in Rockland County includes a private five acre lake, a ramped heated swimming pool, indoor and outdoor sports, library, recreation lounges, wireless internet connection and an adapted computer center.

VISIONS Institute includes workshops/seminars on topics such as:

  • Assistive Technology (portable devices, Apple accessibility, note-takers and affordable solutions)
  • Job Seekers Empowerment Tools
  • Advocacy: “Know Your Rights and Responsibilities”
  • Benefits:  “Why It Pays to Work”
  • Resume Writing and Interviewing Tips

What is the cost? Pre-Registration is free.

(Participants can be sponsored by their NYS CBVH counselor.)

All costs below include lodging, meals and transportation

CBVH Sponsorship:

$200 for 7-day Institute; $100 for Technology Weekend

Non-sponsored: (suggested minimum individual contribution)

$75.00 for 7-day Institute; $50 for Technology Weekend

Roundtrip bus transportation will be provided from

Visions at Selis Manor at 135 West 23rd Street, New York, NY

to VISIONS VCB and back.

VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a nonprofit rehabilitation and social service organization whose purpose is to develop and implement programs:

Ø      to assist blind and visually impaired people of all ages to lead independent and active lives in their homes and communities.

Ø      to educate the public to understand the capabilities and needs of people who are blind or visually impaired so that they may be integrated into all aspects of community life.

VISIONS fulfills its purpose by providing:

§         Individualized Rehabilitation Training at Home or in the Community

§         Social Services

§         Employment Training and Job Development

§         Group and Community Education and Activities

VISIONS programs focus on low income individuals in the Greater New York Area who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities, elders, limited-English speakers and culturally diverse consumers.

VISIONS Center on Blindness (VCB) is a program of VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired. VCB is celebrating 84 years of service.
